A Tale of Two Clubs: How Jonathan Club’s Dual Identity Aligns Perfectly with Range & Bearing’s Custom Offerings
As the Jonathan Club celebrates the 100th anniversary of its iconic downtown Los Angeles location, it continues to break the mold of traditional private clubs. With not one but two distinct campuses — the historic, formal Downtown Club and the family-friendly, oceanfront Beach Club in Santa Monica — the Jonathan Club stands alone in its ability to offer such a diverse and seamless member experience.
That same spirit of duality and versatility is exactly what drew the Jonathan Club to Range & Bearing’s — a company equally committed to providing customized solutions across an expansive range of high-quality products. From cufflinks to custom rash guards, branded socks to beach towels, and even custom tablecloths used for the Club’s major milestone events, the partnership between the Jonathan Club and Range & Bearing’s is a true meeting of excellence and adaptability.
“What I really love about Range & Bearing’s is just the diversity and the quality,” said Andre Jackson, Director of Operations at Jonathan Club. “Downtown and the Beach are two very different environments with different needs — and they help us deliver at both ends of the spectrum, and everything in between.”
With a background that includes more than a decade with Caesar’s Entertainment and management roles at top golf properties on the West Coast, Andre understands what it takes to operate at the highest level in hospitality. He’s quick to point out that Jonathan Club doesn’t partner with just anyone.
“We’re very picky about who we work with,” he says. “We’re the largest membership on the West Coast, and when we choose a partner, it has to be someone who can keep up with the expectations of our members and the quality of our events. Range & Bearing’s does that!”
And keep up, they do. The Club has sourced a wide array of products from Range & Bearing’s, each tailored specifically to the unique cultures of their two clubhouses. For the more formal Downtown Club, the biggest hits have been custom ties, logoed socks, and even cufflinks — subtle, stylish pieces that reinforce the Club’s brand in sophisticated ways. Meanwhile, over at the Beach Club, the tone is more casual and family centric with branded beach towels, rash guards, dog collars and leashes, and custom kids’ items. The crossover? Quality and exclusivity.
One of the standout successes has been the Jonathan Club’s custom decor, particularly for the ongoing Centennial celebrations. With over 300 member events held each year between both locations, the Club invested in two styles of 132-inch custom round tablecloths designed by Range & Bearing’s — a bold and beautiful touch that reinforces the club’s brand at every gathering.
“Before, we’d rent linens, and then just send them back. But now, with these custom tablecloths, we have something beautiful, branded, and reusable,” Andre noted. “It’s not only more visually impressive — it actually saves money over time. And our members notice the difference.”
In fact, the response has been so overwhelmingly positive from members that the Club is in the process of building out a brand-new retail space at the Beach Club — something they’ve never had before. What began as a small selection of branded items has grown into a full-scale member demand.
“The products are flying off the shelves,” Andre said. “Our members want more — they come up to me asking when the next order is coming in. We’re making a capital investment to expand the space, just to offer more Range & Bearing’s products.”
Perhaps one of the most unique aspects of this partnership is the level of customization available. Instead of choosing from a limited set of pre-designed products, the Jonathan Club team can create something uniquely their own — every detail, from logo placement to color, can be tailored.
“Sara [from Range & Bearing’s] made the process so easy,” said Andre. “I’ve worked at clubs where you had to choose from what was available — no real customization. With Range & Bearing’s, we could dream it, and they’d bring it to life. And fast. Sara was sending me back edits almost faster than I could respond.”
At its core, this partnership is beyond transactional. It’s a collaboration built on mutual respect, shared standards of excellence, and a forward-thinking approach to private club merchandising.
“There is value in having the right strategic partnership,” Andre said. “Range & Bearing’s has everything from golf to beach to yacht — and everything in between. They make it easier for us to deliver what our members want.”
As Jonathan Club embarks on its second century, it does so with a clear understanding of who it is — a club of both legacy and innovation. And with Range & Bearing’s by their side, they’re well-equipped to celebrate that past and lead the way into the future, one custom product at a time.
